“The role of the artist is to make revolution irresistible” – Toni Cade Bambara
In addition to being an arts-based researcher, I’m also a working artist. As a professional illustrator, visual artist, and designer, I’ve produced individual images, full length graphic novels and other texts, illustrations for medical textbooks and other technical manuals, and other creative materials for individuals and organizations all over the world. My work has been featured in juried shows in the US, UK, Germany, Hong Kong, Austria and France and has been incorporated into private and major museum collections. And you can do a little virtual mini-tour of my studio here!
You can call me a cartoonist too! I’m a founding member of the American Folklore Society’s Comics and Culture division, and–weird story–I heard a full year after the fact that I was a recipient of the Charles Schulz award for college newspaper cartoonists in recognition of my series, Stating the Obvious (1993-1996). Strange but true.
A smattering of selected works can be found below, however I am happy to share my complete portfolio with you upon request. Please refer to the Permissions page on this website for information about these copyright protected images.
